Trifle Dessert Recipes made with Homemade CustardGo straight to our recipes
Trifle dessert recipes must top the dessert charts of all time especially when they are made with homemade custard.
They are very easy to make, don’t require a huge list of ingredients and best of all they taste divine - somewhere between heaven and paradise!
Many people have trifle at holiday times
such as Christmas or Easter but it is a perfect dessert to eat at any time, especially if you are entertaining. A trifle can be made in advance and kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve. Some desserts can be classed as male or female desserts but this one is enjoyed by male, female and children alike. Even our dogs are partial to a little trifle now and again!!!
Both our recipes have alcohol included in them. However if children will be eating this recipe, especially young children, then you can leave the alcohol out - it will still taste delicious. In fact I rarely add either brandy or cherry to my trifles as I much prefer the taste without.
If you don’t own a trifle bowl, go and treat yourself. There are some lovely bowls in the shops to show off your trifle dessert recipes.

It's not something you can cook while doing anything else as you really need to keep an eye on it or else it will curdle and be ruined.
You will need
- 2 eggs
- 28g castor sugar
- ½ pint of milk
Mix the egg yolks and sugar in a bowl.
Gently warm the milk before pouring the egg mixture into it.
Stir it all the time over a low heat.
Do not allow to simmer as the milk will curdle.
When the custard starts to thicken, remove from heat.
Pour the homemade custard over the trifle mix.
