So what is a recipe for cabbage rolls? Very simply put, you take some minced beef and wrap a cabbage leaf round it and there you have a cabbage roll. This is best enjoyed on a cold winter's night with boiled potatoes or a baked potato, although they can be enjoyed perfectly well on their own.

Cabbage Leaf Instructions

  • 1 large cabbage

Tear away the outer dirty leaves of the cabbage and dispose. Next gently tear away the leaves layer by layer until you have 5 or 6 large leaves. Pop them into a pan of boiling salted water and let them cook for a minute or two until they become wilted enough to be flexible. Don't over-cook or they will be too soft to wrap the meat into. Take them out of the water and allow them to cool. When cooled, place on a chopping board. With a knife, cut a triangle out of the stem as this makes wrapping so much easier. Pop a couple of spoonfuls of beef onto the cabbage leaf and wrap it up in the leaf. Repeat this procedure until the beef is finished.

Cinnamon Cabbage Rolls

  • 300g of best ground (minced) beef
  • half cup of cooked rice
  • half cup of chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • half teaspoon of cinnamon
  • half teaspoon of salt
  • Eighth of a teaspoon of pepper
Take a bowl and mix the beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, cinnamon, salt and pepper together.
Beat your egg in a cup and mix into the mixture.
Wrap about 2 spoonfuls into each cabbage leaf.
Pop into a casserole dish and pour over the sauce before putting the lid on and placing in the oven.

Garlic Cabbage rolls

  • 300g of best ground (minced) beef
  • half cup of cooked rice
  • half cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon of thyme
  • quarter teaspoon of salt
  • quarter teaspoon of pepper
  • 2 eggs

Mix the beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, garlic, thyme, pepper and salt in a bowl.
Beat the eggs in a cup before mixing into the beef mixture.
Now wrap the beef mixture into the cabbage leaves as above.
Pop the cabbage leaves into a casserole dish and pour your chosen sauce over them before placing them in the oven with the casserole dish lid firmly in place.

The Sauce For Easy Cabbage Rolls Recipes

Sauce 1

For a sweeter sauce, try this one

  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 can tomatoes not drained
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
Mix together the ingredients and pour over your cabbage wraps.

Sauce 2

  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 can tomatoes
  • half teaspoon of cinnamon
Mix and pour all ingredients over cabbage rolls in a casserole dish.
