A cheesy potatoes recipe is quick, easy, tasty and very filling.

Choose Your Cheese and Your Potato

There are hundreds of cheeses on the market but the best one to use for this dish is mature cheddar which has a strong taste. The flavour of blander cheeses just doesn't come through the potatoes, although if you do prefer a blander taste - go for a mild cheddar.

Buy King Edward or Golden Wonder potatoes as they are good for mashing.

Cheesy Potatoes Recipe

serve 4 people

  • 6 medium sized potatoes
  • 100g (1 cup) of cheese
  • a little margarine
  • a little milk
Method for cheesy potatoes recipe
1.First of all you need to peel your potatoes.
2.Cut them into quarters depending on how large they are then put them into a pan of salted cold water.
3.Cook them until they can be cut by a knife without any resistance.
4.Drain the water from the cooked potatoes.
5.Mash the potatoes with a little milk and margarine.
6.Mix the grated cheese with the mashed potato, leaving a little cheese for the topping.
7.Put the potato mix into an oven proof dish.
8.Sprinkle the top with the remaining cheese.
9.Place under the grill to brown.

Cheesy Potatoes Recipe with egg

pre heat oven to 180C 350F gas 4

serves 4

  • 240g (2 cup) cooked potatoes
  • 60g (half cup) cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 30g (quarter cup) butter
  • 2 eggs
  • a few browned bread crumbs
  • pepper and salt
Separate the egg yolk from the egg whites before you begin.

1.Mash the potatoes before adding the butter, egg yolks, cheese and seasoning.
2.Mix all the ingredients well together.
3.Whisk the egg whites until they form peaks.
4.Mix the egg whites lightly into the potato mix.
5.Don't mix too much or you will take away the air in the egg whites.
6.Lastly mix in the bread crumbs.
7.Put the mixture into a pie dish so it's three parts full.
8.Cook in a pre heated oven for about 30 minutes

Serve at once and enjoy your cheesy potatoes recipe.
