Disguising broccoli in a broccoli salad recipe makes it very appealing to everyone, especially fussy little eaters who might otherwise not touch it. When shopping for broccoli look for ones that have not been pre packed, only because it's easier to see if they are damaged or wilted. Check that the stalks as well as the flowers appear to be fresh and healthy. Luckily broccoli is available to buy at any time of year.
You can add anything you like to a broccoli salad recipe. Fruits such as pineapple, grapes or mango give the dish a sweet flavour. Why not sprinkle a few peanuts over your salad? Vegetables such as carrots and green peas go well, or try replacing the broccoli with some cauliflower if you are in the mood for change.

Broccoli Salad RecipeServes 4
Choose your dressing
- 1 head of broccoli
- 1 red onion
- 3/4 cup of grated cheese
- 8 slices of bacon
- 3/4 cup of mushrooms
- 1 cup of sultanas
- 1 apple
Method for Dressing 1
- 1 cup low fat mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
Mix all the ingredients together and pour over the broccoli salad.
Method for Dressing 2
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
- 1/4cup rice wine vinegar
Pour the soy sauce, sesame oil and vinegar into a bottle. Put the cap on and give the liquid a shake.
Method for Salad
1. Cook the bacon until it is well cooked and crispy. Allow to cool before cutting into small pieces.
2. Separate the broccoli into small florets.
3. Chop the red onion and apple into small pieces and cut the mushrooms into halves.
4. Mix all the ingredients together in a salad bowl.
5. Serve Chilled
